Grand tour winner and accomplished stage winner, Simon Yates of Team Jayco AlUla has signed a 2 year deal with Dutch team, Visma Lease a Bike. A loyal rider for the past 11 seasons, 2025 will see his first move since going professional in 2014.
Simon joins an elite squad featuring Jonas Vingegaard, Wout Van Aert, Matteo Jorgenson and Jan Tratnik. They will be aiming to counter Tadej Pogacar’s UAE Team Emirates squad in next years Tour de France. Brother of UAE Team Emirates rider, Adam Yates, the two will be key climbing stars for their leaders in the 2025 season.
The 31 year old had to say, “Despite the great time I have had with my current team, I felt it was time to change teams to keep improving myself and get the most out of myself. I look forward to meeting all my new teammates and staff and hit the ground running in 2025.”
Yates has had a decent season so far. Having just placed 12th in the Tour de France, coming close to 2 stage wins. His greatest success was that of the La Vuelta a Espana back in 2018. Where he finished 1:46 ahead of Spaniard, Enric Mas.
